Answer key
- 7,920 330 × 24 = 330 × 20 + 330 × 4 = 6600 + 1320 = 7920
- 10.75 3 × 2.65 + 2.8 = 7.95 + 2.8 = 10.75
- 32/81 8/9 × 4/9 = 32/81
- 10 2 × (12 + 1) − 2 × (2 + 6) = 10 dm
- 0 4 + 5 + 0 = 9, so 9 divides 450
- 32 5 : 4 = 40 : 32
- 13 5 + 8 = 13 rectangles
- 3 122 = 7 × 17 + 3

What 5th grade math is about
The Common Core math standards say Grade 5 time should go to these areas [1]:
- Adding and subtracting fractions, and multiplying and dividing them in simple cases
- Dividing by two-digit numbers, and decimals to hundredths
- Volume
Word problems are where those skills meet a story. Being able to compute is not the same as knowing which computation a story needs, which is why each problem here comes with a question to ask, not the answer.
The 53 skills on these sheets
Each sheet draws 8 problems from 91 Grade 5 word problems in Kizupi’s published lessons, a different skill for each where it can. Only problems that work on paper are used: nothing that needs a picture to count or a clock to read.
